150 "mostly dead" sea turtles set to be "sold to Chinese buyers" confiscated in Palawan

Elmer Badilla of InterAksyon.com reported on Monday, February 18, that "about 150 mostly dead sea turtles were confiscated in Balabac town in Palawan from still unidentified local poachers who were suposed to transport the reptiles and sell them to Chinese buyers."


The report revealed: "About 100 dead turtles were found  hidden on a hill in Sitio Mansalangan, Barangay Sibaring. Forty-nine others, two of them dead, were found in cages hidden in mangrove trees in Sitio Marabon, Barangay Bancalaan, according to the Marine Battalion Landing Team 12. The Marines conducted a two-week surveillance before they launched an operation against the poachers based on a tip from a local resident. However, the poachers managed to escape."
