65 sea turtles found on abandoned boat in Palawan; Authorities say turtles were set to be sold to Chinese poachers

Elmer Badilla of InterAksyon.com reports that "operatives from the Philippine Natonal Police (PNP) Maritime Group-Special Boat Unit and the Philippine Navy seized 65 sea turtles in the southern Palawan Town of Balabac that were about to be transported to Hasa-Hasa Shoal."

The report explained that "the turtles were ultimately intended for sale to Chinese poachers." The bust happened at around 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 25.

 

The report noted: "Maritime Group chief Superintendent Osmundo Salibo Group said the turtles, 14 of which were dead, were found at around 6 a.m. in an abandoned boat anchored off Sitio Marabon, Baranggay Bangkalaan."
