Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala was highest paid Cabinet member of 2012

GMA News Online reports that Agriculture chief Proceso Alcala received the highest salary among the members of President Benigno Aquino III's Cabinet last year, taking home a total of P6.037 million.

GMA News Online reports that Agriculture chief Proceso Alcala received the highest salary among the members of President Benigno Aquino III's Cabinet last year, taking home a total of P6.037 million.

 

According to the report, which was based on the Commission on Audit (COA)’s Report of Salaries and Allowances, Alcala received a P2.515 million yearly salary as agriculture secretary. "On top of his salary, Alcala received a P2.119-million allowance for sitting as the National Food Authority’s council chairman. The agriculture chief also got P341,000 in allowances; P267,729 in bonuses, incentives and benefits; P729,999 in discretionary expenses and P60,000 in additional compensation," the article noted.

 

Next to Alcala, Foreign Affairs chief Albert del Rosario is the second highest-paid member of Aquino’s Cabinet with a salary of P4.355 million last year. Department of Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez and National Commission on Muslim Filipinos chairman Mehol K. Sadain, meanwhile, received the lowest paychecks in 2012. Each Cabinet official earned only P1.311 million and P1.280 million in salaries, respectively.
