The Philippine Star's Michael Punongbayan reports via ABS-CBNNews.com that the Office of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales is planning to acquire a brand new bullet-proof vehicle worth ₱8.5 million for her use.
The report explained that the purchase of a bullet-proof Toyota Land Cruiser "appears to be in reaction to last year's incident when an M-26 hand grenade encased in a canister was found outside the house of the retired Supreme Court magistrate." The purchase of the vehicle was indicated in the 2013 annual procurement plan posted by the Office of the Ombudsman on its website.
