PAGASA set to get "super computer" to improve weather forecasting
The weather bureau is finally getting a long-delayed upgrade.
Perseus Echeminada of The Philippine Star (via ABS-CBNNews.com) reports that the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to acquire an IBM "super computer" that will help the weather bureau improve its weather forecasting services.
The report explained that the computer will allow meteorologists from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to extend their forecast from three days to seven through the use of "advance weather modeling software to consolidate weather sensors nationwide." It is expected to arrive at the weather bureau in September.
