The Huffington Post reports that a jury in California has awarded $58 million to a 43-year-old house painter whose skull has been permanently bashed in and could no longer speak because of the beating he suffered at a bar.

The report explained that Antonio Lopez Chaj’s brain was severely damaged by the beating he got from "an unlicensed, untrained security guard" outside a bar in 2010. The painter was reportedly "trying to intercede in an attack by a bartender and security guard on two relatives who were with him." One of Chaj’s lawyers said his client’s skull "is like a pie with 25 percent cut out of it" after it was smashed against the pavement and hit with a baton multiple times.

Chaj’s lawyers announced at a news conference on Monday that the award has been handed down against the guard’s security company last week in Torrance Superior Court.
