Woman in China throws her newborn daughter out of building window
The two-day-old baby was placed inside a bag and tossed out the window by her own mother.
Agence France-Presse (via Inquirer.net) reports that an 18-year-old mother in China "threw her newborn girl out of an apartment building window to the ground, where she was run over by a car."
The baby's mother-a hair salon worker surnamed Zhang-gave birth on Tuesday, July 9, in the bathroom of a second-floor apartment she shared with nearly 10 people. The report noted: "In her weakened state, Zhang walked upstairs to a window between the second and third floors, and tossed out her daughter. It was not clear whether the baby was killed hitting the ground, or by the impact of the car. She was no longer breathing by the time a security guard noticed the bloodstained bag and called police." Surveillance footage "showed the bag containing the baby hitting the roadway outside, then [getting] crushed by a vehicle."
Zhang is being held "on suspicion of intentional homicide" and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
