"Decongesting" EDSA is also responsibility of local government units, says Malacañang
The Palace defends the MMDA.
Manila Bulletin's JC Bello Ruiz reports that Malacañang has defended the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) from people who criticize the agency as being ineffective in solving the traffic problem along EDSA by saying that decongesting the main thoroughfare is also the responsibility of local government units (LGUs).
The report quoted Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte as saying in an interview over government radio dzRB that concerned LGUs "also have to do their share in enforcing traffic rules that would help ease traffic along the metropolis’ main highway." Valte said LGUs should also be blamed for the traffic jams that occur along the 23-kilometer thoroughfare because they allow tricycles to cross EDSA even though three-wheeled vehicles are banned along national roads according to traffic rules.
