5 senators deal with "pork barrel scam" allegations

11 congressmen allegedly benefited from the scam, too.

ABS-CBN News correspondent Ina Reformina reports that "five senators have been implicated in the alleged scam involving the Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) or pork barrel of lawmakers worth billions of pesos."

According to the report, Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Bongbong Marcos, and Gringo Honasan were accused of receiving million-peso kickbacks from ghost projects involving JLN Corporation-which is owned by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles-and bogus non-government organizations (NGOs). Napoles' relative and former aide Benhur Luy named the senators and 11 congressmen as being recipients of bribes from various pork-funded projects in the sworn statements he submitted to the Department of Justice.

Luy said lawmakers pocketed as much as 70 percent of the fund allocated for agriculture projects and a 15 to 25 percent "commission" for infrastructure projects. The alleged scam occurred from 2006 to 2011. For the record, the five concerned senators have denied the allegations.
