Distribution of Hacienda Luisita land to farmers set to be finished by September, says Department of Agrarian Reform
6,000 farmworkers will share the 4,099-hectare land.
The Philippine Star's Rhodina Villanueva reports that on Monday, July 15, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said that it will soon distribute the Hacienda Luisita to more than 6,000 qualified farmworker-beneficiaries in compliance with the Supreme Court's decision.
According to the report, DAR said it is ready to distribute the land to 6,212 farmworker-beneficiaries since it has already finished "the most contentious stages in the acquisition of Hacienda Luisita under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP)," which is the screening and identification of the recipients of the farmlands. "Each beneficiary is expected to own farm lots with an area of roughly 6,600 square meters," the department said.
DAR is aiming to complete distributing a total of 4,099 hectares of land between August and September this year.
