Forbes magazine names "World’s Most Inventive City"

Scientists at a Dutch campus invent something every 20 minutes

Jan Hennop of Agence France-Presse reports via that the Dutch city of Eindhoven has been hailed by Forbes magazine as the world's "Most Inventive City" for having the most number of patents filed per year.


The report explained that the Dutch tech-hub, which has been compared to California's Silicon Valley, boasts of 22.6 patents filed for every 10,000 residents. The magazine "based its award on statistics from the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)." Patents registered by Eindhoven's residents include "cancer-busting ultrasound techniques [and] ways to boost vitamins in tomatoes."


Within Eindhoven, innovation abounds at the sprawling High Tech Campus (HTC), which used to be a laboratory for the electronics giant Philips. On its website, HTC takes pride in churning out a patent every 20 minutes.
