Sen. Tito Sotto denies allegations that he "wasted" his pork barrel funds
The senator says all the projects he funded with his pork barrel are legitimate.
Maricar Cinco of the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that Senator Vicente "Tito" Sotto III has denied misusing his pork barrel to purchase garbage deodorizers for two municipalities in Rizal that claim to have no need for them.
According to the report, Sotto said all the projects funded by his pork barrel, also known as the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), "were above board because his staff was very careful about documentation." The senator issued the reaction after learning that his office was named on the website of Teresa, Rizal as the source of P1.5 million given to the town in 2012 for the purchase of garbage deodorizers. Aside from Teresa, the municipality of Tanay was also reported to have received P5 million from Sotto last year for the use of the inoculant Effective Microwealth Probiotic (EMP) although no dengue outbreak was reported in the town.
The senator said he would not tolerate any misuse of his PDAF and would cooperate with any investigation done by the Senate or the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) into the abuse of pork barrel funds.
