Metro Manila cities suspend classes on Monday, August 12, due to Typhoon Labuyo

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that "Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has suspended classes in public and private schools in the elementary level in Manila on Monday, August 12, due to the bad weather brought by Typhoon Labuyo."

 

The report noted that as of 5 p.m. Sunday, August 11, "Metro Manila is under signal number 1 along with Albay, Sorsogon, the rest of Quezon, Laguna, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Ilocos Norte, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas."

 

The report also added: "Under the Department of Education’s guidelines, all classes in kindergarten are automatically suspended if an area is under Signal Number 1, elementary and high school classes are suspended in areas under Signal Number 2, while classes in all levels are cancelled in areas under Signal Number 3. Meanwhile, it is the Local Government Unit’s decision to suspend classes in areas where there are no storm signals."


InterAksyon.com reports that moments after Estrada’s announcement, "the mayors of Mandaluyong and Pateros also called up radio stations with similar advisories. Mandaluyong’s Benhur Abalos suspended classes in both elementary and high school, public and private schools."

 

InterAksyon.com noted:

  • Pateros Mayor Joey Medina suspended classes in all levels, from elementary to college, in all schools.
  • Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay suspended classes in elementary and high school, in public and private schools.
  • San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez suspended classes from elementary to college, in all schools.
