Rep. Lani Mercado reacts to proposal to abolish pork barrel: "Basta ’wag lang manghihingi sa amin ang mga tao!"
Whoa! We sense the hostility.
What is the sound of one person completely missing the point?
Philstar.com’s Camille Diola reports that "actress and Cavite 2nd district Rep. Lani Mercado Revilla has said she is not in favor of scrapping congressional pork, and her words were met with angry comments online." The report cited Mercado-Revilla’s interview with PEP.ph, where she was asked if she was in favor of the proposal to abolish the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel fund.
Mercado-Revilla’s answer was this: "Basta ’wag lang manghihingi sa amin ang mga tao (Well, as long as people don’t ask assistance from us)!" She added: "E ano’ng ibibigay namin? Hindi naman puwede yung pinaghihirapan namin dahil sa personal naman namin ’yun, sa mga anak, sa mga pang-araw-araw na panggastos namin (What are we going to give them? I don’t think it’s fair to spend our hard-earned personal cash because we use that for our kids and our daily needs)."
The report likewise noted: "(Mercado-Revilla’s husband, actor and Senator Bong Revilla, has been tagged in the pork barrel scam. Reports have also alleged that their son Leonard Bryan is a business partner of James Christopher Napoles, son of Janet Lim Napoles, suspected to be the mastermind of the scheme."
