P-Noy lashes out at critics involved in the pork barrel controversy
He also said the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) was constitutional.
ABS-CBN correspondent Willard Cheng reports that President Aquino III appeared on primetime television on Wednesday evening (October 30) to declare that he was not-and will never be-a thief, in contrast to some politicians whom he said have never denied stealing public funds.
According to the report, "Aquino came out to address the nation in an unprecedented primetime broadcast after the pork barrel scandal pulled down his satisfaction ratings in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey." During the 10-minute speech broadcast on all major television networks, the president "vowed to run after and prosecute those who have misused public funds" and justified the existence of his administration’s Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), which he said was not a form of pork barrel.
Without naming anyone, Aquino also took a jab at certain politicians whom he said "have not categorically denied" misusing their pork barrel allocations. He said public officials guilty of stealing from the government underestimated him and the public if they thought they can get away with their crime by calling him the "pork barrel king."
