EDSA I icon June Keithley passes away due to cancer
She was the voice that called people to the streets.
ABS-CBNNews.com reports that veteran radio broadcaster June Keithley-Castro, who is known for continuing the news broadcast of Radyo Bandido at the height of the 1986 People Power Revolution despite threats to her safety, died on Sunday (November 24) due to cancer. She was the widow of newsman Angelo Castro, Jr, who passed away in 2012.
The report quoted the broadcaster's son Diego as saying that she died at 6:35 p.m. at St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City after a long battle with breast cancer.
Keithley-Castro "is best known as the voice on Radyo Bandido," who called on the people to march to the streets in the days leading up to the civilian protest known as EDSA 1.
According to Keithley-Castro's family, her wake will be held at the St. Ignatius Church inside Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City starting Monday (November 25).
