Hot (and illegal) New Year firecrackers: Napoles and Yolanda
If you can’t beat them, blast them.
Dino Balabo of The Philippine Star reports, that "police in Bulacan, the nation's fireworks capital, are tracking down vendors selling illegal and oversized firecrackers named after alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles and the monster storm that ravaged Eastern Visayas last month." Yes, you heard that right. The most sought after illegal firecrackers this season are named "Napoles" and "Yolanda."
The report quoted Senior Superintendent Joel Orduna, Bulacan police director, who revealed that they have received reports that Napoles and Yolanda were being sold in the province. However, he said, "We still have to see the items and make arrests."
The report noted: "Years ago, illegal firecrackers sold in the markets had names like Bin Laden, Goodbye Gloria, Goodbye Philippines, and even Pacman."
