Henry Sy still in Forbes "Top 100 Wealthiest People" list despite drop in family fortune
He’s ranked the 97th richest man in the world.
Doris Dumlao of the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that mall tycoon Henry Sy, along with ten Filipino tycoons, made it to Forbes magazine's 2014 list of the wealthiest people in the world.
According to the report, "Sy and family had an estimated net worth of $11.4 billion, lower than last year's $13.2 billion, but enough to keep him on top of the local roster and within the ranks of the world's top 100 richest people." Due to a drop in his net worth, the 89-year-old Sy slipped in the global rankings from being the 68th wealthiest person to being 97th.
Other Filipino businessmen who made it to the Forbes' list of wealthiest persons globally were: Lucio Tan, founder of diversified conglomerate LT Group Inc., Megaworld and Alliance Global Group's Andrew Tan, shipping magnate Enrique Razon Jr., construction magnate David Consunji, Metrobank group and GT Capital founder George Ty and family, Jollibee group founder Tony Tan Caktiong, stock broker and prominent car dealer Robert Coyiuto Jr., and Filinvest group founder Andrew Gotianun.
A welcome addition to the list "and ranking fifth among Philippine billionaires is JG Summit founder John Gokongwei Jr., an 86-year-old industrialist with an estimated net worth of $3.9 billion."
