MMDA to launch bike-sharing scheme, new EDSA bike lanes to encourage more people to bike to work

Will EDSA become less congested because of this?

Clara Masinag of reports that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to launch a bike-sharing scheme called "Bike-kadahan," along with two more bike lanes along EDSA, on Wednesday (March 26) to encourage the public to ride their bicycles to work and leave their cars at home.

The report explained that under "Bike-kadahan," interested riders may use bicycles provided by the MMDA for free as long as they "present a valid identification card in exchange for a card indicating the bike number." The card should be surrendered when the bike is returned. Mobile bike shelters made from trailer trucks will be set up in several parts of Metro Manila to store the bicycles.

Meanwhile, the two new bike lanes to be inaugurated by the MMDA are on the portion of the road from Ortigas to Santolan (northbound) along EDSA and another from White Plains from EDSA to Temple Drive.
