Mandarin Oriental Manila closing this year, new hotel to open in 2020
It had a good run for 38 years.
ABS-CBNnews.com reports that "after 38 years, the iconic Mandarin Oriental Manila Hotel will be closing its doors this year."
In behalf of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Mandarin Oriental Manila general manager Torsten van Dullemen, sent out a statement on Wednesday, June 4. He wrote, "Mandarin Oriental, Manila has been recognized as one of the city's most iconic hotels since its opening in 1976, and the Group wishes to express its sincere appreciation to all colleagues for their legendary service and support over the years. All hotel colleagues have been informed of the forthcoming closure and will receive full and fair severance payment and appropriate professional guidance."
But that doesn’t mean the hotel will be gone forever.
According to the ABS-CBNnews.com report, "the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group signed a contract for the branding and management of the luxury hotel, which will open in 2020."
The report added: "The new Mandarin Oriental Manila will be owned and developed by Ayala Land Hotels & Resorts. With 275 rooms, the hotel is being positioned as one of the leading luxury hotels in the Philippine capital."
Though there are no specific details about the exact location of the new Mandarin Hotel, the report said that it would be "part of a mixed-use development centrally located within Makati City."
Meanwhile, there’s no word yet on when the last day of the hotel will be.
