This is not The Bling Ring: Teenage robbery gang leader nabbed in Manila
Where does our young criminal go from here?
We could have called them our local version of The Bling Ring if there was actual bling involved. But, alas, this story is far less glamorous-and more brutal-than that troubled Tinseltown tale.
The Philippine Star’s Aie Balgatas See reports, "Ryan Jay Garcia, 19, the reported leader of the Montemayor Gang and one of the most wanted persons in Manila, was nabbed by the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group along Recto Avenue last Wednesday, June 18." (Sorry, the report didn’t explain the gang’s name.)
There’s an arrest warrant issued by Judge Ma. Celestina Manrobang of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 38, for the alleged robbery and gun-for-hire operation of Garcia’s group.
The report noted: "Garcia was brought to the Moriones police station in Tondo pending a commitment order from Manrobang while the authorities are still hunting down four of his allged accomplices."
