De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde student dies from hazing, 3 others injured
He was only 18 years old.
Guillo Servando, an 18-year-old second year Hotel and Restaurant Management student of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), was found dead at a unit in One Archers Place in Taft Avenue, Manila late Saturday night, June 28.
ABS-CBNnews.com reports: "According to initial investigation conducted by the Manila Police District (MPD), the victim, along with three other DLS-CSB students, arrived at the condominium at around 9:30 p.m. that day."
The condominium guards said they "thought that the four students were drunk as they were not walking steadily." Then, sometime around 11 p.m., a Philippine Red Cross ambulance arrived at the condominium. One of Servando’s companions had called for help.
When the condominium guards and the Red Cross personnel got to the unit where the boys were, they saw that Servando was already dead. Nevertheless, he was still rushed to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). His three companions, who had injuries of their own, were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The report noted: "Before being rushed to the hospital, the three students were able to disclose that earlier that day they were picked up from a fastfood spot along Taft Avenue and blindfolded. They were then brought to another location and then brought back near the condominium after the initiation rites."
In any case, Manila Police District Homicide Section chief Inspector Steve Casimero said they are now finding it difficult to investigate the death of Servando further because "the families of the three other students refuse to give any more statements." The families of the three students, however, have referred them to their respective lawyers.
The police identified the fraternity that the students were trying to join as the Alpha Kappa Rho (AKRHO). The group, the school, and the Servando family have to issue any statement on the incident.
