UP Diliman’s Beach House set to close on July 9

This is heartbreaking!

When a Facebook page calls itself "Huwag Isara ang Beach House Naming Mahal," it’s pretty clear what its intentions are. In this case, its administrators are simply some University of the Philippines-Diliman alumni who are doing their best to prevent the imminent closure of one of the school’s iconic food spots. (No, they don’t have any financial involvement with the establishment. They just really don’t want to see it go.)

Famed for its pork barbecue, the Beach House, which is located near the UP Diliman Main Library, opened in 1986. It’s going to be closed next week, July 9, to be exact. (Read: Top 10 Best Pinoy Pork Barbecue in Manila)

The administrators of the "Huwag Isara ang Beach House Naming Mahal" explained:

UP said it is unsanitary to have a canteen very near a drainage system as it might affect the health of the students eating there. This they posit after 28 years. Beach House opened in 1986.

UP already won its eviction case against Beach House. The same decision was upheld in an appeal. In the legal sense, there is no further recourse.

The purpose of this petition is to show the administration that Beach House means something to us, that it is an institution that has seen us through for the past 28 years.
