Paramount Pictures apologizes for Ninja Turtles 9/11 Poster
The Philippine Star reported on Thursday (July 31) that Paramount Pictures tweeted an unintentionally insensitive poster for their upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.
The promotional poster featured the four crime fighting turtles jumping from an exploding skyscraper underscored with the September 11 release date. It was then tweeted by Australian Paramount Pictures and also appeared on its official Facebook page, which has more than six million fans.
Both posts were heavily criticized for evoking images of the tragedy that happened in New York in 2001 and quickly taken down, but not soon enough as screenshots of the controversial poster still circulated.
In a statement, Paramount Pictures Australia said, "We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia."
