Senator Santiago just as irked as everyone about the C5 traffic jam

Madam Miriam is with us!

Getting stuck in a traffic jam for four hours isn’t quite the way most of us wanted to extend our time away from the office. Commuters were greeted with a beastly "carmageddon" early Monday morning on August 4 and among them was Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

In a report by, the Senator was described as "fuming mad" at the illogical memorandum issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

"LTFRB’s logic escapes me. Allowing these trucks to ply our roads when they are still securing the necessary paperwork in the name of trade and commerce is a flimsy excuse. This is LTFRB failing in their basic regulatory functions," she said of Memorandum Circular Numbers 2014-009 and 2014-010. The former suspended operations against colorum buses and out-of-line operations, while the latter allowed public utility buses (PUBs) to modify their routes and pass through major thoroughfares, such as EDSA, from 19 June 2014 to 17 October 2014.

Furthermore, the Senator criticized the LTFRB for consulting solely with the business sector and the trucking companies.

"Had they consulted with motorists and commuters, the Metro Manila traffic situation could have been different," she said.
