BIR Commissioner Kim Henares appointed to UN committee
First the Philippines, then the world!
ABS-CBN News reported on Tuesday that BIR Commissioner Kim Henares has been appointed to the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appointed Henares as one of the 25 tax experts and senior tax administrators from developed and developing countries. According to the report:
The committee is responsible for exploring ways and means of facilitating the conclusion of tax treaties between developed and developing countries and for promoting international tax cooperation among tax authorities.
Simplified, Henares will do what she does best: Finding ways to make tax collection efficient. The ABS-CBN article quotes a 2014 report by the Global Financial Integrity, which stated that the Philippine government has lost US$23 billion tax revenues since 1990.
