Tiu to critics: "Spare my family"
He’s not smiling anymore
A teary-eyed Antonio Tiu appeared on television on Thursday, showing contempt for the way he was treated during his appearance in the Senate hearings. The controversial businessman was particularly offended by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s insistence that he reveal the contents of his bank account and a joke he made about haggling with kidnappers.
"Senator Cayetano, is it right and humane for you to joke about kidnapping? Is it right to humiliate me and make me a laughing stock on the issue of kidnapping, especially us members of the Filipino-Chinese community who have to deal with this danger every day?" Tiu said and added that he now fears for his family’s safety. He pointed out that Senator Cayetano’s questions gave kidnappers a hint of his wealth and exposed him to greater risks.
He also expressed concerns that the BIR, the DAR, and other government agencies are going after him, all because of the accusations that he is a "Binay dummy."
