PSA: You Can Get Free Mental Health Medications in Metro Manila

Treatment is available for depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

(SPOT.ph) Mental health is no longer the taboo topic it used to be (thankfully), but the price of medication remains prohibitive. A single prescription can set you back thousands—and it’s something you have to spend on every month. Skipping meds isn’t exactly a good idea when your well-being is on the line. The good news? There is free help available if you know where to look.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD) is giving away free psychiatric medications through its Medicine Access Program for Mental Health. To qualify, patients must have an updated prescription. Just email a copy to mentalhealth.dohncr@gmail.com then wait for a confirmation before claiming your medicine. That’s it!

Free medications for mental health conditions

The DOH's program includes several medications used to treat a range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Here are the available medications:

  • Paliperidone Palmitate (150mg) – Used to treat schizophrenia by reducing symptoms like hallucinations and delusions; administered as a long-acting injection that doesn't require daily dosing. 
  • Escitalopram (10mg) – Used to manage depression and anxiety disorders by improving mood, sleep, and overall emotional stability. 
  • Lithium Carbonate (450mg) – Used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder, particularly effective in controlling manic episodes and preventing suicidal behavior. 
  • Quetiapine (200mg) – Used to treat bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and major depressive disorder by helping stabilize mood and reduce severe anxiety or agitation.
  • Risperidone (2mg) – Used to manage schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism-related irritability by rebalancing chemicals in the brain. 
  • Clozapine (100mg) – Used for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, especially when other antipsychotics have failed. It is also known to help reduce suicidal thoughts.

    You can pick up your free medications at any of the designated access sites for the Mental Health Access Program for Mental Health (MAP-MH). There are over 30 locations across Metro Manila.
