The Philippines on Tuesday logged 5,434 new COVID-19 cases as the stricter Alert Level 3 expands to Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal.
The day's tally brought active cases to 29,809, with a total of 611 new recoveries and 18 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 2,861,119 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,779,706 have recovered and 51,604 died.
The capital region along with Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal will be under Alert Level 3 until Jan. 15 after infections increased in the days following Christmas.Â
Face shields are required under Alert Level 5, the strictest in a five-step system, and at Alert Level 4, local authorities may require the public in their area of jurisdiction to wear the added plastic barrier.
Biogesic and paracetamol on Monday night topped Twitter trends following what netizens said was limited supply of the painkiller at pharmacies during flu season that hit as COVID cases are spiking.
The Department of Health said it consulted major drugstores and manufacturers regarding the supply, and assured the public there was no shortage of paracetamol in the market.
