Can't Unsee: A Salvador Panelo Music Video Actually Exists

Not sure if it's a sketch comedy or a parody.

(SPOT.ph) After Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque's attempt to take TikTok by storm, another Palace official hopes to catch your attention by showcasing his...erm....musical talent on YouTube. "You're the Love of My Life," which is apparently an original by Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, was uploaded on August 13. It has since earned more than 56,000 views, around 1,000 likes, and about 4,300 thumbs down. Honestly, the comments section would have probably led to a good popcorn moment or two had it been turned on.

In true music-video fashion, the five-minute clip starts off with a drone shot of Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar in Bataan. The one-of-a-kind resort features old Spanish-Filipino colonial houses that were each transported from their original location and restored amid the cobblestone streets of Las Casas. It even has a replica of a tranvia, where the president's chief attorney pretends to be thinking about the love of his life (to match the song) while touring the heritage destination. It is dedicated to his wife, Dr. Araceli Panelo, who also appears towards the end of the video.

"In the winter of my life, I remember you my dear," the intro goes. The rest of the lyrics have all the elements of a cheesy love song: the promise of forever ("take my hand, be my girl, and we'll live together"), putting one's beloved on a pedestal with flowery praises ("you are the song that I sing," "You are the music I hear"), and sharing an intimate (possibly, cringey) moment ("I touch your hair, I kiss your lips, they are mine forever"). There's not really much to it as the whole track just keeps on repeating the title, "You're the Love of My Life."

We're still not over the many costume changes that echo the vibe of every scene, and the varying personas that the frustrated pop idol seems to take on: there's the trying-hard tito with a printed floral shirt and ripped jeans chuckling at the couples he sees, the edgy pianist wearing a biker jacket while playing a love song, the blast-from-the-past Panelo wearing an oversized four-button suit, and the white-coated secretary ready for date night.

Panelo's music video is apparently the product of a full-production crew, including director Roe Pajemma who also worked on the music video for Donnalyn Bartolome's "Sabi Niya," Ethan David's "Sa'Yo," Katrina Velarde's "Lason Mong Halik." These are all from Viva Records in case you're wondering. (We wondered, too.)

Panelo made the headlines in July after his non-apology apology for Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz. The government official tagged the Filipina athlete in a "matrix" of alleged anti-government plotters on national television in 2019. The redtagging didn't only affect the Diaz, but also her whole family who feared for their safety. Panelo insisted that there's really nothing to say sorry for and that the reactions were all "based on a wrong premise." He also blamed the media for reporting on the matrix he presented during a Palace briefing.
