Fashion, Food, and Art at the Preview 20th Anniversary Gala
There were more trains on the red carpet than on the MRT.
(SPOT.ph) Do fashion folk eat? Is fashion art? What exactly is “Creative Black Tie?”
These were the questions we wanted answered the moment we received our invitation to Preview magazine’s 20th Anniversary Gala. Held at Green Sun Hotel on June 26, the fête was one for the books—marking not just two decades of Preview but also the anniversary of SPOT.ph's mothership, Summit Media.
We scoured the red carpet, exhibit, and service kitchen for answers that evening. Here’s proof:

Creative Black Tie by example: Preview EIC Pauline Juan wore furry flats on the red carpet, while Fashion Director Daryl Chang traded her heels for platform Chucks later in the evening.
Girl No. 1: Tweetie De Leon looked as beautiful as she did on Preview’s first cover back in 1995.
La Greta, in a little black dress, arrives with Tony Boy Cojuangco in tow…
…at almost the same time, Dawn Zulueta and Anton Lagdameo came to the venue. (Read the backstory here.)
We didn’t know what to look at first: Kim Jones’ dress or her doe eyes.
Lippie fans, meet Happy Skin Cosmetics’ Rissa Mananquil-Trillo and hubby Paolo Trillo.
Social media girlcrush Martine Cajucom took the short and sweet route.
So did Bianca King—but hers was an edgy pick.
Who gets away with a silver windbreaker at a formal event? StyLIZed author Liz Uy does.
Twinsies Jasmine Curtis and Julia skipped all manner of frou-frou and opted to suit up instead.
Max Collins is sugar and spice all at once.
Blogger Laureen Uy tackles fringe.
Milliner, musician, and former PBB housemate Mich Dulce channels Anglomania
KC Concepcion went for slick hair and eye-catching red.
Valerie Weigmann in a look that’s Miss World-perfect.
Christian Bautista showed up in fashion-forward formal.
Actor and model Victor Basa got away with a tie-less white jacket.
You are welcome here! Veejay Floresca—fresh from the controversial Valkyrie incident—was a headturner.
Aside from its playful premise, Creative Black Tie was also an excuse for all-out glamour. Below, a list of women who opted for the long and sweeping. Buti pa sa Preview Gala, mas maraming train kesa MRT:
Actors Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica
Model Valerie De Los Santos
Project Runway alumna Jaz Cerezo
Model and singer Catriona Gray
When it came to sweeping hemlines, no one complied better than the Preview staff.
Conceptual artist Gary-Ross Pastrana curated the exhibit that celebrated the magazine’s 20 years. Pastrana collaborated with fellow artists Martha Atienza, Jan Balquin, Micaela Benedicto, Lesley-Anne Cao, Lou Lim, Katherine Nuñez, Pam Quinto, Veronica Pee, Shireen Seno, Maxine Syjuco, Gail Vicente, Marija Vicente, and Tanya Villanueva in translating Preview’s content into visual art.
Preview worked with Bizu to create a pass-around menu that looked as good as it tasted. Aside from an open bar, waitstaff also worked the entire event space to refill everyone’s goblets with the choicest reds and whites rather proactively. We didn’t complain.
And how’s this for a birthday idea? 8Cuts created a birthday burger for the event, which also doubled as EIC Pauline Juan’s birthday extravaganza. Now, that’s a treat a few calories less than the normal 8Cuts burger. The best part? We all had our share and ate them, too.
