Smart, Globe and DITO must deactivate clickable links in spam texts to prevent fraudsters from accessing sensitive data, regulators said Tuesday.

Scammers resort to using fake job and loan offers, recently including names of text receivers which consumer suspect could be from GCash or Viber data.

Regulators told the three telcos to block or deactivate URLs and QR codes from malicious sites based on a database collected by government agencies and subscriber reports, according to a memo by the National Telecommunications Commission, as reported by ABS-CBN News' Jess Fenol.

Those who receive spam texts are reminded not to click links from unknown numbers to avoid compromising their personal and other sensitive information.
