(SPOT.ph) High-end street brand Crooks & Castles, founded and run by Filipinos, has become a hit in the international hip hop scene, reports BalitangAmerica.TV. According to the report, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Outkast and Drake have been spotted wearing the brand’s clothes and Rapper Nas mentioned them in one of his songs.
The Filipinos who run the brand incorporate the gang lifestyle in many of the designs, which was part of their environment while growing up in Cerritos, California. Design Director Emil Soriano told BalitangAmerica.TV that they try to relate their interests, such as going to gun ranges, to what they do in the brand.
The name Crooks & Castles was inspired by hip hop lyrics, reports BalitangAmerica.TV. "We started building more meaning towards it like behind every castle there’s a crook. Behind every empire there’s someone that did something dirty to get there," said founder Dennis Calvero, also a former Marc Ecko designer.
Founded in 2002, Crooks & Castles has branches on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles and in Hawaii. According to BalitangAmerica.TV, a few members of the Crooks team will soon perform with some of the musicians who wear the brand.
