Clean Air Advocates Sue LTO for Pollution in Metro Manila
Who else can we sue?
(SPOT.ph) In a bold move on Tuesday (June 2), the Coalition of Clean Air Advocates of the Philippines (CCAAP) went ahead and filed a case against the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for its failure to enforce the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.
CCAAP accused the LTO of "massive graft and corruption in the motor vehicle emission testing process" and pointed to this as one of the major reasons we're inhaling sweet, sweet smog. According to Zenaida Manahan, president of the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, their members were asked to pay P500 in exchange for "skipping" vehicle inspection.
No word yet if passengers are also trying to draft a lawsuit against the DOTC for emotional distress brought by the many woes of the MRT.
