Erap saves the day, plans to run for president if VP Binay backs out
(SPOT.ph) In an interview at the Manila Hotel on July 1, Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada said that if Vice President Jejomar Binay drops out of the presidential race due to legal problems, there was a "big possibility" that he would run for president in his place.
"That is the only time that I will be forced to run for president, because we cannot allow the opposition to have no candidate. It will no longer be democracy if there is no opposition candidate," he explained. He added that he still had a shot at the presidency since he didn't finish his term in 2001. (Never mind that he was impeached for plunder, but okay.)
However, Erap faces a conundrum, torn between choosing to support his "kumpadre" or his goddaughter Senator Grace Poe, should she decide to run. His solution? "I will see who can help the greater majority," he told ANC.
