BOC chief to meet with OFW groups
Meanwhile, zero-remittance day is still pushing through on Friday.
(SPOT.ph) Amid the outcry over the balikbayan box issue, Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Alberto Lina has scheduled a dialogue with OFW groups, tentatively set for September 1 or 2.
According to Lina, the said meeting will be a direct consultation session with the OFWs, its aim to gather the concerns and grievances of the overseas workers. Meanwhile, OFWs continue to voice their grievances despite the Palace's call to halt random inspections by pushing through with the zero-remittance day scheduled for Friday, August 28.
Sen. Chiz Escudero said that the attempt may cost the country P3.1 billion in losses. Malacañang, however, believes that the plan will not have a negative impact on the economy.
