INC protesters to leave EDSA today, August 31
But they're moving to Manila.
(SPOT.ph) Mandaluyong Mayor Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos has permitted the thousands-strong crowd of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members to stay along the EDSA-Shaw Boulevard area until the morning of August 31 due to weather conditions, but they are expected to move to the City of Manila within the day, reports Interaksyon.
A Twitter update from dzBB shows images from the protest today.
The protest began on August 29, with the Mandaluyong administration saying that the permit was to "contain" the INC members. They were given until 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 30 to hold the protest in the area, but did not vacate the area due to the weather as well as the "instruction from their leaders."
The group of nearly 20,000 protesters has reached the People Power Monument and caused massive traffic jams along EDSA since Friday night. According to the MMDA, the congestion from Guadalupe to Ortigas is still not passable to motorists.
Abalos also added that they will be providing escorts for the INC members to transfer to Manila, where they have been permitted to protest until Friday, September 4.
