DOTC Secretary hopes that the new MRT coaches will help push "Daang Matuwid" in 2016
He says improvements in the MRT will help voters remember them at the polls.
(SPOT.ph) Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Sec. Jun Abaya has said that he hopes the newly bought MRT coaches will help the administration’s bets win in the upcoming national elections. "This project, together with the infrastructure projects just approved by NEDA [National Economic and Development Authority] are prime examples of why Daang Matuwid should continue," said Abaya to reporters while inspecting the prototype for 48 new coaches ordered by the government from China.
Abaya added that the priority of the administration is to improve the train’s facilities as soon as possible for the convenience of commuters, citing that such changes should be felt by Filipinos early next year. “Commuters will start feeling the difference in the first or second quarter. If this helps voters remember us at the polls, it is an added bonus." Abaya said.
According to the DOTC, the prototypes will be tested before the year ends.
The MRT, one of the few modes of mass transport in Metro Manila, has drawn a lot of negative feedback because of poor and worsening facilities, maintenance, and frequent breakdowns.
