(SPOT.ph) Former Makati Vice Mayor Bobby Brillante filed a case with the Ombudsman against Acting Makati Mayor Kid Peña on Tuesday morning, according to a report by Inquirer.net.
The suit pertained to alleged overpriced cakes amounting up to P3 million. These cakes are distributed daily to senior citizens of Makati City who celebrate their birthday.
The cake giveaway project started in 2003 during the mayoral term of Vice President Jejomar Binay. It stirred up controversy after a Senate hearing found that the said cakes were allegedly overpriced.
While he did not axe the project after Mayor Junjun Binay’s six-month suspension, Peña replaced the original cake supplier, Cups and Mugs Kitchenette and Catering Services, which is believed to be directly linked to the Binay family.
