The Ro-Ro tandem is now official
The Liberal Party declares Roxas-Robredo as their bets.
(SPOT.ph) On the morning of October 5, Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo officially accepted the offer of Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel Roxas II to be his running mate in the 2016 presidential elections as vice president. "Si Leni, tiyak swak na swak at sagad to the bones ang paniniwala sa Daang Matuwid," Roxas said. The announcement was made at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City—the same place where P-Noy endorsed Roxas as Liberal Party standard-bearer on July 31.
"Buong puso, buong pananampalataya, at buong tapat ko pong tinatanggap ang hamon na tumakbo bilang pangalawang pangulo ni Sec. Mar Roxas," said Robredo in her speech. She also stated her confidence in Roxas to continue the Daang Matuwid started by P-Noy.
Robredo was asked to be Roxas’ running mate after Sen. Grace Poe, LP’s first choice for VP, decided to run for president. There have also been talks with Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, who is currently negotiating with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for a possible tandem, should the latter change his decision about retiring from politics in 2016, and running for president.
This makes the race for the vice presidency a four-way battle. Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV have already announced their 2016 plans to run for vice president.
