3 Snacks to Pack for Your Road Trip
These are the perfect snacks for any journey.
One of the biggest struggles we face when traveling is deciding what food to bring, especially on long road trips. Snacks are essential during your travels to keep your energy up and even hydrate you sometimes. Here are three snacks you can pack for your trip.
This particular snack is great for any trip, especially if you’re traveling with kids. There are tons of variations from plain to granola with raisins or almonds. You can buy any of these from the grocery store, so you don’t have to worry about the misconception that granola bars are flavorless. They also make a healthy alternative to chocolates and sweets, as they have less sugar and high fiber content. If you don’t like the store bought kind, there are tons of recipes you can find on the Internet for a more personalized touch or flavor.
Tip: Granola bars go great with yogurt, so you can pack some yogurt cups as well.
Sweet Potato Chips
Sweet potato chips are a healthy alternative to potato chips—and they make awesome travel food too. According to the National Institutes of Health, sweet potatoes are a good source of Vitamin A, which “helps form and maintain healthy skin, teeth, skeletal and soft tissue, mucus membranes, and skin” and is also good for the eyes.
Tip: You can shake it up and add flavor by mixing spices and condiments. Cayenne pepper, cinnamon, and plain cheese are some favorites.
It is important to keep hydrated when traveling, but during a trip, you might find yourself trying not to drink a lot of liquids because it could be difficult to find a restroom on the road. One alternative to drinking lots of water is eating fruits with high water content. It’s a plus that they make tasty treats. According to Health.com, fruits with the highest water content include cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons, and strawberries. Just watch your intake as you’ll still need the bathroom if you end up eating too much.
Tip: If you aren’t a fan of fruits, some great vegetable alternatives include carrots, celery, and broccoli.
