Quotes of the Week: Richard Gordon on backdoors, Kris Aquino on Herbert Bautista + more

The city's most interesting soundbites this week

(SPOT.ph) Election stories came to a halt over the past weekend when Typhoon Lando hit Metro Manila and devastated the northern parts of the country. A few politicians still had a few exciting revelations this week: from talks of dirty politics and medical records, to having zero debt and supporting Pinoy indie films.

"I'm not interested in getting it from the backdoor. I want to make sure that the people will realize that if they want to have a country where they're going to have real leaders, they have to have honest to goodness clean, fair elections." — Senatorial candidate Richard "Dick" Gordon on his claims that UNA and LP members are asking him to file a disqualification case against Sen. Grace Poe.

We really hope Dick manages to make it in this time.

"The government I think has responded to all. Casualties hopefully will not climb. But again, we will not take any chances and we will try to ensure that we are on the side of being conservative and making sure that everybody is protected during this time." — President Noynoy Aquino on the government response to Lando-stricken areas.

P-Noy also urged the ones who evacuated not to return to their homes too soon because this typhoon was anticipated to stay longer than usual.

"The Philippines is the most storm-exposed country in the world and its expertise in disaster risk management can be usefully adopted by other countries trying to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction." — Head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Margareta Wahlström on the government's handling of Typhoon Lando.

This is a reality we all have to face.

"One particular obstacle is the lack of funds for marketing. As such, most indie films rarely become box office hits."— Quezon City Rep. Alfredo Vargas III on his proposed Philippine Independent Film Incentives Act of 2015.

Can we finally expect more film choices in the future?

"Parang sinasabi nya kasi, it’s my burden to prove that I’m healthy for the presidency e kung ganun lahat na lang ng tatakbo e pwedeng tanungin maliban sa health issues niya, meron ka bang mental health issues, meron ka bang financial issues, baka may utang ka..." — Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago on calls to reveal her medical records.

Anyone who is interested in going into this government probably has at least a few mental issues.

"The city is fiscally healthy. And I think any government, whether communism, socialism, monarchy or democracy, if there’s no money, there’s no government.— Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno on the City Manila having no more debts.

Moreno said that the previous administrations left a P4.4-billion debt but the current local administration has already "cured" this problem. He also said that he's happy that current Mayor Joseph Estrada is endorsing him for the 2016 elections.

"He's the only male left in the world? Duh. Girl, get real." — Kris Aquino on a question raised on her Instagram account, supposedly referring to Mayor Herbert Bautista.

Kris Aquino is officially Instagram's Sharon Cuneta.

"I am asking forgiveness for what I did. I know I committed a mistake and because of this I am ashamed for my family, my team, school and everyone who were affected." — Ateneo de Manila University varsity basketball player John Apacible on a drunk driving incident that was caught on video.

Let this be a public service reminder to always drink moderately. Or just don't be a douche, even if cameras aren't rolling.

"I can't sleep, I can't concentrate, I can't even think straight. I am a mess. I'm coming apart at the seams and it scares me." — Actress Nadine Lustre on an Instagram post that caused many fans to worry.

JaDine fans to the rescue!

"My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one, I would call it a make-up record...Making up for lost time." — British singer Adele on her upcoming album, 25.

It's about time!
