This new Facebook feature loads web stories 10 times faster
Loading time taking too long? Here's some good news.
(SPOT.ph) Facebook’s new feature, Instant Articles, allows iPhone users to access web articles faster, with an Android version already in the works. “We are rolling out this morning to every iPhone user and starting an Android beta,” Facebook chief product officer Chris Cox said during a conference in California on October 20.
This is a favorable development; especially because long loading time is a common struggle in the Philippines. Users of Facebook on iOS will begin to see stories with a lightning bolt icon on the upper right corner to indicate an Instant Article on their News Feeds. On a blog post, product manager Michael Reckhow wrote, “When you tap the story, it loads 10 times faster than a standard mobile web article.” According to Cox, Instant Articles is part of Facebook’s mission to ease communication and distribute information faster, rather than keep users on the social website.
NBC News and National Geographic are among the launch partners, but the number of publications that will provide Instant Articles is expected to increase over the coming weeks. The beta program on Android devices is set to be released by the end of the year.
