(SPOT.ph) Busy day, Spotters? We quickly recap 10 things you might have missed while you were off the radar.
By now, you've probably seen or heard of a video of Kim Chiu (above) allegedly cutting in line during COMELEC's voters registration on October 27. The video has since gone viral (over 30,000 shares as of writing), which led to plenty of Internet users bashing the actress. On Thursday, Kim replied to a Twitter user and explained that she was already in the mall by 7:30 a.m. and she asked her assistant to line up for her. She only showed up once it was her turn. She also wrote, "Don't judge if you don't know the real story [and] don't base [it] sa kung anong nakikita ng mata. Know everything first bago magkuwento."
Fans of Rihanna can finally cop the pop diva's style...sort of. Rihanna has launched two new companies, including Fr8me, which books commercials, editorial photoshoots, and events for aspiring artists. Part of her glam team are Mylah Morales (her own makeup artist), Jason Bolden (Taraji P. Henson’s stylist), and Marcia Hamilton (Jada Pinkett Smith and the Smith family’s hairstylist). Rihanna's other company is photo agency A Dog Ate My Homework, with celebrity photographers Erik Asla and Deborah Anderson.
Ten iconic items from Breaking Bad have been donated to the Smithsonian, including Heisenberg's (Bryan Cranston) black hat and the famous yellow hazmat suits, which fans can view in the museum's West Wing section. The exhibition is home to dozens of other pop-culture memorabilia, including Fonzie's jacket from Happy Days and the puffy shirt from Seinfeld.
Bea Alonzo is the latest celebrity name to be thrown into the list of contenders for the next Darna. In an interview Tuesday, Bea said she has not received any offers to take on the role and added, "Ako si Basha [from One More Chance], hindi si Darna." Still, she admitted that she is open to taking the role, saying, "Siyempre, malaking honor 'yan, my God. Malaking blessing 'yan if ever, but wala pa namang nag-o-offer sa akin. I will tell you about it if ever."
On November 12, scientists announced that they have found a distant object in the solar system. The discovery was announced at an American Astronomical Society planetary sciences meeting in Maryland. "We can't really classify the object yet, as we don't know its orbit," said Scott Sheppard, an astronomer with the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C. The object, dubbed as V774101, was just discovered a few weeks ago and will take a year to observe, according to Sheppard. V774101 is 103 times farther from the sun than Earth, which is farther than planet-like bodies Sedna (discovered in 2003) and VP113 (discovered in 2012).
It's official! Kobe Paras, the son of basketball player Benjie Paras, is now a cager for the UCLA Bruins, which he announced via his Twitter account on Wednesday. Kobe first committed to the team last year after he received a scholarship from UCLA coach Steve Alford while playing for the LA Cathedral Phantoms.
Amid questions about her health, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago said on November 12 that she is ready to run for president in 2016. Santiago claimed that she has beaten stage four cancer with the help of “very advanced cancer medication.” The Senator admitted that cancer medication is very expensive. “As long as my contributors will be able to help me survive, I will be able to finish the campaign and even win it,” she said.
On November 11, Vice President Jejomar Binay celebrated his 73rd birthday in Pasay City, where he heard mass, shared his life story, and had breakfast with the residents. The presidential aspirant talked about his younger days, when he witnessed the death of his mother and their house burning down. “My birthday wish is to uplift the lot of every Filipino. That is the main thrust of my leadership. Then and now, that is still the main thrust,” Binay said. “The poverty that I went through, that’s always on my mind, now that I aspire to become president. Until now, I say [what we have done] in Makati, that no person should die because of poverty, because [he or she] can’t afford to buy food, can’t go to the hospital,” he added.
