This bus service makes traversing EDSA this holiday season a lot more bearable

We'll jump at any excuse not to drive these days.

( This year has arguably seen the worst holiday season traffic, ever. And we don’t even need statistics to prove that—we experience it daily. But it’s Christmas time, and we can help each other in little ways. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) started its Holiday Non-Stop Bus service on December 5, and it will operate until January 6. The MMDA encourages motorists to leave their vehicles at home in an effort to decongest EDSA.

We want to see a shift the culture from car-riding to bus-riding public,” Cabinet Secretary and traffic czar Jose Rene Almendras said. He also cited that the express bus scheme is a way of increasing efficiency of road usage.

The express buses will pick up passengers at Trinoma and SM North EDSA in Quezon City, and SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City and bring them to Park Square Ayala Center, Glorietta 5, and Park Square Terminal in Makati City. The buses can only load or unload passengers along Ayala Avenue once inside the Makati City Central Business District (CBD).

Passengers would have to pay P60 from Trinoma and North EDSA heading to Park Square, Ayala Center; P64 from SM North EDSA to Glorietta 5; and P40 from SM Megamall to Park Square, Ayala Center.

Departure times vary depending on where you're coming from, but on weekdays buses will depart in 30-minute intervals starting as early as 6:00 a.m. with the last trip for the day leaving as late as 10 p.m. (Check schedule above.)

On weekends, the express bus service starts at 9 a.m. and the last trip is at 10 p.m. (Check schedule above.)

We already love the idea of non-stop travel, which means the operators won't "park" at every bus stop to fill the vehicle with passengers (which is the reason why you're always late). Plus, this service promises to leave on time, with or without passengers. How are commuters finding it so far?

This makes us well up with tears of joy.
