1. ABS-CBN to meet talents over Cathy Garcia-Molina controversy

ABS-CBN has finally responded to allegations from two former Forevemore talents that director Cathy Garcia-Molina "verbally abused" and "humiliated" them on set. In a statement, the network said it had arranged for a meeting with the talents back in 2014 through MTQ Promotions and Talent Management (the agency that hired the latter), but were informed that they had already met with network representatives and the issue had been settled.


"When Ms. Domingo posted an open letter on her Facebook last December 30, we were surprised to learn that the issue has not been resolved, contrary to what the talent agency owner told us," said the network. "At present, we are in communication with Mr. Campomanes and both parties have agreed to meet to resolve the matter."


2. Beauty and the Bestie clinches top-earning spot at MMFF

It's official: Star Cinema's Beauty and the Bestie is the top-earning MMFF entry for 2015, reaching the P300 million mark on January 2. It is closely followed by My Bebe Love, with a little under P300 million as of the same date. The two other top-earning films are Haunted Mansion and MMFF Best Picture winner, Walang Forever. In total, the combined box-office figures of all MMFF entries is at P915 million as of January 3.


3. Enrique Gil is starring in an independent film


In an interview on Tuesday's Kris TV episode, indie film director Paul Soriano confirmed that he will be working with young actor Enrique Gil in a new movie. Although he didn't disclose any plot details or possible co-stars, he said that they plan on filming in February under his production company, TEN17P. Other notable films under TEN17P include Dagitab, Transit, Kid Kulafu, and the highly anticipated Lav Diaz film starring Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz.


4. Adele’s 25 is the highest-grossing album of 2015

It looks like there’s no stopping Adele. Her record-breaking album, 25, now has the highest U.S. sales made within a single year for the past decade. 25 was the highest-grossing album in 2015, spending its sixth week at number one on the year's final chart released by Nielsen Music on January 4. By the end of 2015, 25 sold 7.44 million copies in the U.S.—coming second after Usher’s Confessions, which sold 7.98 million copies in 2004. Adele’s comeback album after a four-year hiatus was released in November 2015.

5. You need to see this guy perform Slinky Kung Fu

6. This gadget scans food to reveal its nutritional value


If your 2016 goal is to eat healthy or lose weight, you'd probably want this nifty gadget by your side at every meal. French startup DietSensor launched a pocket-sized, Bluetooth-connected molecular sensor called SCiO, which uses a unique technology to determine the chemical makeup of food and drinks. In short, it tells you the fat content and carbs found in the food it scans. The technology is primarily aimed at those with diabetes or cardiovascular diseases to help regulate their diet.


7. COMELEC Chairman says the poll body is likely to decide on mall voting in 10 days

On January 4, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Andres Bautista announced that they would have a decision on mall voting within the next two weeks. According to Bautista, mall partners have been cooperative with the owners of about 100 malls who expressed their willingness to participate. Once implemented, 500,000 to 700,000 voters can be accommodated in malls and priority will be given to PWDs and senior citizens.


8. Senators give go signal in the reopening of Mamasapano probe

Sen. Grace Poe confirmed that the two committees that investigated the Mamasapano massacre in January 2015 will reconvene as soon as possible for the reopening of the probe. Poe chairs the committee on public order, which spearheaded the Mamasapano probe. “Let it be stated as I manifested before, the new hearing/s will not affect or void our earlier findings. It has been signed by 21 members. Lagi namang may puwang kung may bagong ebidensya,” she said in a text message on January 5. Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile sent a request for further investigation when he took the floor in October 2015.
