1. Kris Aquino promises showbiz comeback after hiatus

Before she airs her final Kris TV episode tomorrow, March 23, Kris Aquino told fans, “I’ll be back, pagaling lang po muna.” She's been told by her doctor to rest for at least two months, and said on her Instagram page that she'll be giving her followers weekly updates on her health. “Ang ideal is 10 p.m. matulog ka naMahirap pero 'yon talaga—sleep at the right time and get at least eight hours,” she added.

 

2. Pia Wurtzbach confirms she's dating

After weeks of persistent rumors, Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach told Extra's Mario Lopez that she is "dating," but didn't give any specific names. Her announcement came a day after People Magazine's "Sexiest Doctor Alive" Dr. Mike Varshavski admitted that they were in the early stages of dating. The couple made headlines earlier in March after they both appeared on the latter's Snapchat account.

 

3. Game of Thrones showrunners vow Season 6 will be the "best"

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have promised the show's upcoming Season 6 will be the "best one" so far. "This season there is not a [single] weak episode," said Benioff. "But that’s my sense—watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest." Thrones returns to HBO this April 24.

4. Apple unveils iPhone SE

Apple has brought together the features of the iPhone 6S with the convenient size of the iPhone 5S in a new unit dubbed iPhone SE. It will be the smallest smartphone in Apple’s current roster, as well as the first to be released with a screen smaller than 4.7 inches since the iPhone 6. It will also feature a 12-megapixel camera, four times the graphics performance of the iPhone 5S, and a longer battery life. The iPhone SE reportedly hits shelves in April.

 

5. Pope Francis joins Instagram, gains 1.6 million followers in 4 days

Joining the photo-sharing app with @franciscus as his handle, the much-loved Pope Francis has been attracting followers since Saturday, March 19.  Dubbed “The Pope millennials can love” by TIME magazine, the pontiff is vocal about his appreciation for social media platforms. He refers to them as a “gift for God.”  The Pope currently has six posts in his account, one of them a video with the caption “I want to walk with you along the way of God’s mercy and tenderness” in different languages.

 

6. NAIA customs intercepts drugs in mail parcel

Through mail parcel, authorities found an estimated P1.440-million worth of ecstasy tablets from Germany bound for Cavite, 53 grams of shabu hidden inside a bicycle from Quezon City intended for Saudi Arabia, and another 16 grams of shabu bound for Europe. Investigations are ongoing and the Bureau of Customs will file criminal charges against the perpetrators and their cohorts.

7. UP named top university in the Philippines across four subjects

According to the independent international rankings agency Quacquarelli Symonds, the University of the Philippines ranks among the best universities in the world in four subjects, namely English Language and Literature (ranked between 101-150); Modern Languages (151-200); Agriculture and Forestry (151-200); and Medicine (301-400). Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University also secured spots, both ranking in the 151-200 range in English Language and Literature and the latter in 201-300 in Education. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University dominated the rankings.

 

8. Poe and Duterte take top spot in poll

In the latest Pulse Asia presidential survey commissioned by ABS-CBN, Sen. Grace Poe is statistically tied with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte at 26 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Vice President Jejomar Binay comes in third with 22 percent followed by Interior Secretary Mar Roxas with 20 percent. Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago trails behind with 3 percent. The survey was conducted after the Supreme Court gave Poe the go signal to run for president.
