The last man standing is a woman.
(SPOT.ph) After three days of joint canvassing by the Senate and Congress, two weeks of unofficial and partial tally through transparency server, and days of controversies surrounding the May 9 elections, it is now official that the Philippines' new vice president is Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.
The canvassing ended on May 27, around 7 p.m., while Robredo is in Naga City to celebrate the birthday of her late husband Jesse Robredo. She rode a bus from Quezon City to her hometown on Thursday night amid the counting of votes at the Congress.
"Maraming salamat po sa mga tumulong mula pa noong nagsisimula pa lamang kami. Nag-umpisa po kami sa wala.," she said in a live interview with Mike Enriquez and Vicky Morales on GMA's 24 Oras. "Mahalaga ang pagtanggap namin ng balita dahil birthday din ni Jesse Robredo." She was right by her husband's grave.
The final tally is based on 167 Certificates of Canvass. Robredo won at 14,418,817 votes, just 263,473 votes away from Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. The proclamation will be done on Monday, May 30.
