Free rides for all at the MRT and LRT on Sunday!
Ride all you want at these hours on June 12.
(SPOT.ph) Commuters in Metro Manila won't have to line up at the ticketbooths of the Metro Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit on Sunday, June 12 because rides will be free, according to GMA News. This special treat is to celebrate the 118th anniversary of Philippine Independence. The free rides are available only at certain hours—from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) runs along EDSA from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City. Line 1 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) runs from Baclaran in Pasay City to Roosevelt in Quezon City. Line 2 of the LRT, on the other hand, runs from Recto in Manila to Santolan in Pasig City. The MRT and LRT-1 have a connecting station in the intersection of EDSA and Taft, MRT and LRT-2 in the intersection of Aurora Boulevard and EDSA, and LRT-1 and LRT-2 in Recto.
The Department of Transportation and Communications, in partnership with various government agencies, usually announces free train rides during special celebrations and holidays. They declared free rides for female commuters during International Women’s Day in March, for veterans in observance of Philippine Veterans’ Week in April, and for everyone during Rizal Day in December.
