Duterte's inauguration is going to be a simple but super exclusive party
So exclusive that Leni Robredo has been asked to hold her own inauguration elsewhere.
(SPOT.ph) President-elect Rodrigo Duterte will hold a simple inauguration where only banana fritters and refreshments will be served at the President’s Hall in Malacañang on June 30, according to GMA News. Martin Andanar, head of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, said that the event will only be attended by about 540 invited guests.
Andanar said the exclusive guest list includes the Senate President, House Speaker, and the incoming administration’s Cabinet members who will also take their oaths during the event. Even these appointed top officials were not allowed to invite their families due to the extremely limited space.
Andanar said that this was the reason why Duterte’s camp chose to send Vice President-elect Leni Robredo’s camp a notification that they preferred to hold separate inauguration rites.
“Hindi pa ito final. Pero kung ako ang tatanungin mo, sa limited space na ang kasya ay 500 to 540, mga bisita na ng Presidente iyan at hindi na kasya [para sa ibang tao],” he said.
Meanwhile ABS-CBN News posted a statement from Duterte’s top aide Bong Go which addressed the inauguration issue. “We believe than Leni Robredo’s family and supporters who worked hard for her deserve also to be present to celebrate her victory. And this can only be possible through a separate inauguration,” read the statement.
Robredo’s camp has earlier stated that they respect Duterte’s decision and will instead hold the vice president-elect’s inauguration in a yet to be determined location in Metro Manila.
